“Echoes of Exile: The Art of Home and Homeland” Artist Talk
January 26 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

“Echoes of Exile: The Art of Home and Homeland” is an evocative exhibition featuring the works
of two Hispanic artists—Claudia Rojas from Cuba and Chomingo Rivas from El Salvador. This
compelling collection explores the complex interplay of identity, displacement, and belonging.
Through their vibrant and deeply personal art, both artists reflect on their respective journeys
from their homelands to the United States, navigating the emotional terrain of exile, memory,
and cultural transformation.
Claudia Rojas’ work pays homage to Cuba, capturing the rich culture and intangible essence of
her homeland while grappling with the tension of leaving it behind. Chomingo Rivas, in turn,
explores themes of identity and resilience through his depictions of characters from El Salvador.
Both combine culture, identity, and the painful yet empowering experience of migration.
Together, their works invite viewers to reflect on the universality of migration, the search for
self in a new land, and the enduring echoes of home that reverberate across time and distance.
In “Echoes of Exile,” these artists offer an intimate portrait of the diaspora experience—where
home is not just a place but a shifting, evolving concept, woven together with threads of
memory, hope, and the ongoing quest for belonging.
