Candy*ology: How Sweet it is!

Welcome to our new Faces of Lititz blog series! Here we’ll tell the stories of the hard-working folks behind your favorite shops. First up is Candy*ology, owned by Rita Garson.

You can’t help but smile when you step inside Candy*ology, located on 69 East Main Street, across the street from the Lititz Post Office. A dreamy stop for young and old alike, Candy*ology makes the tiniest eyes widen and, for us grownups, offers a gentle reminder of days when a stick of gum or a lollipop could cure all that ailed.

For Candy*ology owner, Rita Garson, opening the shop required some patience. “After trying for five years to find a storefront in Lititz, Candy*ology finally opened in 2011,” she shared. “I had worked as a dental assistant on Main Street and was impressed by the foot traffic in town. My husband is a candy broker and we wanted to open a shop to experience the fun side of candy.”

For Rita, the candy itself is only half the fun. Designing the store with its sweet pops of color was also a fun challenge. “I own my own business, RoomArrangements, which creates different interiors. My husband was excited to see what I could create for a candy store.”

Rita’s design is fantastical. The shop seems to smile at you upon entering, with happy pastels and inspiring themed niches full of yummy treats. Candy ranges from the nostalgic (try one of their gift boxes featuring candy from different decades – great for a birthday treat!) to the silly (you’ll get a serious chuckle out of some of the names and labels) to the hottest trending confections. There’s always something new to explore at Candy*ology. It’s clear that Rita’s having fun running this downtown Lititz staple!

When she’s not in the shop, you’ll find Rita enjoying Lititz events with friends (of course, only when the store is closed), staging spaces, flexing her creative muscles, or heading to the Outer Banks to spend time with her daughter. Be sure to stop in and say hi the next time you’re walking by!
